A CAMPAIGN group backing US Presidential candidate Kamala Harris will, from today, begin accepting donations in cryptocurrency, it has been confirmed.
The team linked to the current Vice President of the United States has approved a move by a powerful political action committee (PAC) to raise campaign funds using digital assets.
Known as Future Forward, the PAC has already raised millions of dollars to assist with the campaign to make the Democrat candidate the next President following the US elections on November 5.
Current polls show the voting split could be very tight between Harris and the Republican candidate Donald Trump, with Future Forward pinning some hope on cryptocurrency giving their campaign the edge over the former President of the United States.
However, some scepticism surrounds the confirmation by Coinbase, as Harris has yet to reveal what her stance on crypto is, other than fleetingly hinting at supporting 'the growth of emerging technologies'.
"Coinbase can confirm that the Future Forward PAC has onboarded with Coinbase Commerce to accept crypto donations," a brief statement from the exchange said.
As well as teaming up with Coinbase, it understood Harris' campaign team have also met with Ripple and at least two other - as yet unnamed - prominent DeFi firms.
Trump, meanwhile, has spent months courting cryptocurrency, even going as far as saying all remaining Bitcoin should be mined in the US. It is believed Trump's campaigners have already accepted several millions of dollars in crypto.
